2010

This year we’ve won the National Skydiving Championships (again), competed in the Extreme World Championships (jumping from the roof of our hotel in the middle of Benidorm), been Speed Flying in the Alps, went proximity wingsuit flying in the Swiss Mountains, got crowned Army Sports Team of the Year before we had a run in with the police in Germany when they apprehended us for being UFOs as shown in the National and International Press! Next up is the World Skydiving Championships before a number of other projects including a jump with a severely injured veteran of Afghanistan and a road trip through Europe with a whole heap of crazy jumps and proximity wingsuit flying.

If you haven’t checked it out then please see our
latest video edit from South Africa and Switzerland.

South Africa Record Setters

Following the Canopy Piloting Parachuting World Cup which the Jump4Heroes Team are competing in, held near Johannesburg, South Africa, there will be another record setting BASE Jump. The team plan to start at Cape Town before working their way around to Johannesburg jumping nearly everything in sight! The plan is to include a record breaking Canopy Formation BASE Jump. Read a bit about it on
The Royal British Legion Blog, see the Taster video and watch the Overview.

World Record BASE Jumps in Malaysia

We have recently returned from our Kuala Lumpur World Record Project. We came so close to setting a new Guinness World Record in Malaysia- 24 jumpers each to do 24 jumps in 24 hours. As a group we fell short. The Jump4Heroes team members stepped up to the task and exceeded their jump requirements with Cpl Deane ‘Smudge’ Smith beating by one the current record of 26 jumps with one self-packed rig in the time and Major Alastair Macartney then surpassing that with an impressive 32 and a new record. The Tower totals 421m and is the fifth tallest telecommunications structure in the World, however the exit point is slightly lower at approximately 310m.

The Eiger

We did it.

On Friday 18 September 2009 three of the Jump4Heroes team BASE jumped from the Eiger in Switzerland. They leapt thousands of feet from the famous 'mushroom' plateau, propelling themselves in to freefall, flying their bodies enabling them to literally track away from the cliff face.

The weather had not been great and while there was opportunity to undertake some training jumps in the lower valley the success of the project was touch and go- at one stage the winds on the Eiger were doing 257 Km/h! Fortunately a narrow window opened up on the last day and the team literally leapt at the chance to make this BASE jump project happen.

Training and preparation was paramount particularly as, at the time of starting this project, Spencer had not made a single BASE jump. However all 3 team members have substantial skydiving and parachuting experience and undertook this project in order to raise money for
Help For Heroes- supporting our wounded.
